What happens to our existing system?
It rarely needs throwing away. We usually add a connecting layer so the old system and the new one exchange data, then migrate functions gradually. That avoids the operational downtime which is usually the real reason a replacement gets postponed for years.
How do we know it will actually get used?
Because we design it with the people who will use it, not only with the people who commissioned it. A system that adds three steps to somebody day gets quietly abandoned no matter who approved it.
Who maintains it afterwards?
Either your team or ours. If your team takes it, you get technical documentation and a handover session. If we keep it, that runs as a monthly arrangement covering fixes, library updates and monitoring.
