Connecting Riau Islands small businesses to large industry through one directory
The situation before
Large industry across the Riau Islands regularly needs local suppliers, and local suppliers regularly need those contracts. The two sit a few kilometres apart and still fail to find each other.
Supplier search ran on personal introductions, which meant any business without an existing network never entered consideration no matter how capable it was.
What we built
We built a two sided directory. Small businesses register a profile with their production capability, and industry browses by the kind of requirement they need filled.
The deciding factor turned out not to be the feature set. It was the registration form. The largest group of intended users are small operators filling it in on a phone, and every additional field lost a percentage of them, so the form was cut back until it could be finished in one sitting.
What was handed over
- A searchable directory of local suppliers, filterable by capability
- Registration completable from a phone without abandoning halfway
- Supplier profiles readable by search engines rather than locked inside an app
