Fleet activity on one screen instead of relayed down a phone chain
The situation before
Knowing what the fleet was doing depended on verbal reports from captains and port agents. The same news often arrived twice with different detail, and important news sometimes never arrived at all.
Assembling a complete picture of where every vessel sat took several phone calls, and the result was already stale by the time it was written down.
What we built
We built a monitoring application that makes one screen the source of truth. Vessel activity is recorded directly by whoever witnessed it rather than relayed through two people first.
Each vessel keeps a history, so a question about what happened last Tuesday is answered from the record rather than from somebody memory.
What was handed over
- The whole fleet visible on one screen in near real time
- A searchable history for every vessel
- Records entered by the person who saw the event, not a third hand summary
