A training platform sized for its two busy weeks, not its quiet ten months
The situation before
Government training has a distinctive load shape: quiet for most of the year, then a sharp spike during registration and examination.
A system built for average load looks perfectly healthy throughout testing and then falls over on the single most important day of its year.
What we built
We put material, registration and assessment in one place, then sized capacity for the peak rather than the average.
The most heavily visited pages were made static so they never touch the database at all, and only the genuinely dynamic parts were left to hit it. Accessibility compliance was built in from the start, because a public service has to be usable by everyone who is entitled to it.
